Logan County, Arkansas Roadblocks
Arkansas Highway 23 near Lone
One of the most surreal things I have ever experienced in this country.
I was driving a group of youth from our church in Texas to a mission project in Missouri. We passed through this rural Arkansas county in the early morning hours and hadn’t passed another vehicle for almost an hour. All of a sudden, about 5 miles into Logan County, we topped a hill and on a straight stretch of the highway ahead saw blue lights. Thought it was an accident and stopped short of the patrol cars when a flashlight came on and waved us forward. Discovered it to be a roadblock manned by two young deputies.
They were polite, but very inquisitive. One deputy inspected paperwork on van and drivers license while the other did a walk around and used a powerful flashlight to look through windows. Woke up everybody in the process. We waited another ten minutes for them to inspect the second van with us. No other vehicles came through the roadblock while we were there and with the low level of traffic we couldn’t believe they would even bother with this site.
